Abstract


LIFELONG LEARNING TENDENCY OF PARAMEDIC STUDENTS
Lifelong learning is a lifewide, voluntary and self-motivated pursuit of knowledge for either personal of professional reasons. Paramedic program is a pre-bachelor program which takes two years and contain emergency medical intervention and care training. In this study it was aimed to examine the lifelong learning tendency and characteristics that may be related with socio-demographics of paramedics students in a cross-sectional design. ‘Lifelong Learning Tendency Scale’ and ‘Personal Information Inquiry’ were used for data collection and 70 students were enrolled. The datas gathered in research were interpretted in SPSS 18.0 software, the documents of percentage and frequency taken, arithmetic mean and standart deviation calculated. The reliability coefficient of the scale was calculated as 0,89. Mann Whitney U- Test and Kruscal Wallis H-Test were performed. The significance level was determined as 0.05. 60% of the survey participants are female and 42.9% are staying in student dormitories. Student's of Lifelong Learning Tendency Scale score could be considered as a good level. The motivation level of the students staying alone or with friends is significantly higher than the students staying with their family (p<0.05). In any dimension, no differentiation determined between the students even the variables of genders, class levels, type of graduated high schools or having a job (p>0.05). Since the present study is limited to its study group, studies to be conducted with different groups may provide alternative insight into the subject.
