Abstract

FROM BEKIRAGA SECTION TO MALTA: LEMNOS EXILES
Ottoman State signed the Armistice of Mudros on October 30 1918 and the armies of Entente States arrived in Istanbul on 13 November 1918. British High Commissioner Admiral Calthorpe asked the British government to arrest and hand over people who are believed to be guilty to the Entente States and as he was authorized with this duty arrests began. Many soldiers and civilians were arrested for being war criminal and responsible for Armenian deportation. Those arrested were imprisoned in Bekirağa Section. Twelve people who were previously arrested in Istanbul and whose interrogations were completed were exiled to Lemnos Island. Twelve people exiled to Lemnos were taken to Malta from Lemnos on 29 May 1919 with the British ship called Princess Ena. It is important how twelve exiled people were taken from Istanbul to Lemnos island, where they sheltered, what they ate and drank, what they thought, how they spent their days, and how they were treated. The details of the experiences of the important representatives of political, scientific, cultural and military life of Ottoman State living in exile in Lemnos island should be explained.
