Abstract


MISTAKES AND SOLUTION OFFERS REGARDING THE USE OF OBJECT CASE SUFFIX IN TEACHING TURKISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Learning a language has been one of the most significant subjects with the acceleration of international relations, the development of education policy and student exchange programs coming into effect. In recent years, the desire to learn Turkish has also been increasing. Learning a language is based on the skills of writing, speaking, listening and reading. In addition to this, so as to use a language efficiently and to communicate, it is necessary to know the basic rules of that language. Belonging to the family of Ural-Altaic languages, Turkish is an agglutinative language. In order to understand the functioning of the Turkish language and to use it according to its rules, it is vital to know the function and usage characteristics of the suffixes. One of the subjects in which many problems are experienced in teaching Turkish as a foreign language is case suffixes. The aim of this study is to identify the problems confronted in using the object case suffix being one of the noun case suffixes in teaching Turkish grammar. The study comprises 30 students being within the scope of Erasmus student exchange program and taking the Turkish lesson as a foreign language in Academy Turk and Izmir University of Economics between the years of 2011-2012. The examination of the documents and the evaluation of the data obtained from observations and practices have been verified by content analysis. In this study, through identifying the mistakes regarding the object case suffixes in teaching Turkish, the problems pertain to object case suffixes have been discussed with qualitative methods and solution offers to these problems have been introduced. Research results shows that students students have experienced serious problems with object case suffixes. 179 mistakes were determined relevant object case suffix. The mistakes of object case suffixes have been examined in four stages: wrong spelling of object case suffix unnecessary spelling of object case suffix disusing object case of suffix and object case suffix mixing with the other noun case suffix. Most of the mistakes regarding mixing object case suffix and the other case suffixes of noun. End of the study solutions have been offered relevant to object case suffix.
