Abstract


INTERNET ADDICTION AND CYBER BULLYING AMONG PRIMARY EDUCATION STUDENTS
The aim of this research is to investigate the internet addiction and cyber bullying among primary education students. The sample consisted of 632 eight grade students from 14 different schools in İstanbul. The data were collected by using ‘Internet Addiction Scale’ developed by Young (1996) and adapted in to Turkish by Bayraktar (2001) and ‘Cyber Bullying and Online Aggression Survey Instrument’, developed by Hinduja & Patchin (2009) and adapted in to Turkish by Özdemir & Akar (2011). The main results are: (a) The prevalence of internet addiction among students is quite low (0.2%) and only 3.5% of students reported limited symptoms. (b) Students who spared more time in internet found to be more internet addiction tendency. (c) 20.3% of students reported that they suffered from cyber victimization at least once in their life time. (d) Female students reported that they cyber bullied and became cyber victim significantly more than male students.
