Abstract
ON THE BASIC TECHNIQUES AND APPLICATION PROCESSES OF PAINTING
In this article, aimed to examine basic painting techniques and application processes that made with tempera and oil in the Western Art from the Early Renaissance until the first half of the 19th century. "Basic Techniques" are technical approaches that separated from each other in terms the application process in painting. Great painters of the past centuries have created their personal style by adding some specifications to this basic techniques.
The differences between the basic techniques are related with painting materials and application methods, but in the same time technical differences are related with aesthetic and structural problems of a painting too. Therefore, some painting techniques came to the fore in some centuries and schools. After modernism some artists reinterpreted the techniques of the old masters in their works and these techniques are also using by some painters today. To examine the basic painting techniques is necessary to better understanding of the art from past and it will be also some benefits for contemporary artists.
