Abstract
THE PLACE OF AL-FARĀHĪ IN THE STUDIES OF NAZM AL-QUR'ĀN IN INDIA
India is the name of a crowded geography with a very deep-rooted tradition of knowledge, although it is far from Hi'jaz, where the Qur'an descended. With the arrival of Islam, studies on understanding the Qur'an began and many commentators wrote works on the Qur'an and tafsir. The first mufassir who worked on nazmu'l-Qur'an in India was al-Behaimi. However, Abdulhamid al-Farāhī is the person who has concentrated on this subject the most not only in India but also in the whole Islamic geography. Although al-Farāhī worked in many fields, he concentrated on understanding the Qur'ān and put forward the theory of ‘Nazm al-Qur'ān’. He determined the basis, usûl and furu of this science. The theory he adopted is different from the theory of ‘Qurjani's “Qur'ânic nazm” and Zarqashi and Suyuti's “Tenâsüb” theory. The basic understanding of al-Farāhī's Nizām al-Qur'ān theory is to reveal the existing main subject of each sūrah, to connect it to the previous and subsequent sūrahs, and then to explain the sub-topics depending on this main meaning. Islāhī, who was a disciple of al-Farāhī, continued to develop this science in his tafsīr based on this method he based on. In the introduction part of our study, brief information is given about the life, scientific studies and works of the commentators who worked on nazm al-Qur'an in India. In addition, the reasons for the development of nazm al-Qur'an studies in India, the commentators who worked in this field in our country and the views of the parties of the nazm al-Qur'an debate in Islamic history are also given.
