Abstract
A STUDY ON TURKISH LEARNING STYLES OF REFUGEE STUDENTS IN SECONDARY SCHOOL
It is important to realise teaching by taking into account the individual differences of learners in the educational environment. Educators need to know the learning styles of students in order to plan which materials they will use in the lesson and which teaching methods and techniques they will use in the lesson. In this study, it was aimed to determine the learning styles that refugee students studying in secondary schools in Turkey use in Turkish lessons and the effect of some variables on learning styles. For this reason, descriptive survey model, one of the quantitative research approaches, was used in the study. The participants of the study consisted of 200 refugee students studying Turkish at Mezitli İmam Hatip Secondary School in Mezitli district of Mersin province in the 2023-2024 academic year. The data of the study were collected with ‘Barsch Learning Styles Inventory’ and ‘Personal Information Form’. In the analysis of the collected data, descriptive statistical techniques, t-test for independent samples and one-way analysis of variance for variables with more than two groups were used. At the end of the study, it was determined that refugee students' Turkish learning styles were above average. It was determined that students' Turkish learning styles did not show a statistically significant difference according to gender and length of stay in Turkey, but showed a statistically significant difference according to the variables of mother tongue, age level, place of birth and reason for being in Turkey.
