Abstract

ADAPTATİON OF MİYASE SERTBARUT'S STORY "PLUM KERNELS" TO A2 LEVEL OF TEACHİNG TURKİSH AS A FOREİGN LANGUAGE, LEGİBİLİTY AND COMPREHENSİBİLİTY
In parallel with the development of teaching Turkish as a foreign language in recent years, the need for leveled reading texts has increased rapidly. Literary works by Turkish authors, especially adapted to the language levels of the learners, have gained importance. However, it cannot be said that there are reading texts leveled at a level that will meet the current needs in the field. Likewise, there are not enough studies on the relationship of leveled texts with reading and comprehension speed. For this reason, in our study, the story called Plum Seeds from Miyase Sertbarut's Saat Monsterı book was chosen and adapted to students learning Turkish as a foreign language at A2 level. In the adaptation made, the criteria determined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the criteria determined by the Program for Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language prepared by the Turkish Maarif Foundation; The language teaching sets Yedi Iklim Turkish Coursebook (A1 and A2) and Yeni Hitit Turkish Coursebook for Foreigners 1 were adhered to. The opinions of 13 field experts were consulted to ensure the validity and reliability of the research. In order to examine the effect of the adapted text on reading speed and comprehensibility level, studies were conducted with 12 volunteer students at A2 level at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University TÖMER. As a result of these studies, it was concluded that the adapted text increased the reading speed and the comprehensibility of the text compared to the original text.
