Abstract

THE EFFECT OF “SIX THINKING HATS” ACTIVITIES ON MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS' WRITING ATTITUDES AND ANXIETY
This study investigated the effect of "Six Thinking Hats” activities on middle school students' writing attitudes and anxiety. This quantitative study adopted anexperimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The sample consisted of 31 eighth graders from a public school in the central district of Muş province in the 2021-2022 academic year. Participants were recruited into experimental and control groups using random sampling. The experimental group attended Turkish classes involving activities designed according to the "Six Thinking Hats” technique, while the control group attended Turkish classes based on the current curriculum. The study lasted eight weeks. Data were collected using the Writing Anxiety Scale developed by Karakuş Tayşi and Taşkın (2018) and the Writing Attitude Scale for Middle School Students developed by Can and Topçuoğlu Ünal (2017). The data were analyzed using a statistics software package. The results showed that the experimental group had lower levels of writing anxiety and more positive attitudes towards writing than the control group. Recommendations were made based on the results.
