Abstract

PROBLEMS FACED BY SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN MOTİVATİNG STUDENTS IN DISTANCE EDUCATION
Distance education is a form of education dating back centuries, which is preferred to enable individuals to receive their education in cases where there are problems with access to education. Although it is an old method, it cannot be said that it completely replaces face-to-face education. The main reason behind this is the problems experienced in motivating students to the lesson in distance education. The study group of this research, which was carried out in order to determine the problems that secondary school teachers experience in motivating students during distance education, consisted of 15 secondary school teachers working in Ünye district of Ordu province in the 2020-2021 academic year. Participants were asked 5 questions in the semi-structured interview form prepared by the researcher. Descriptive analysis was applied to the answers obtained and various findings were obtained as a result of the analysis. According to these findings, the teachers defined the concept of "distance education" as an education system where the teacher and the student are physically in different environments, eliminating the access problem and using a technological tool. Distance education is insufficient in terms of low motivation of teachers and students and giving all the gains; On the other hand, it has been concluded that distance education is superior to face-to-face education in terms of time and space flexibility and diversity of visual materials, and that the most problems in motivating students to the lesson are due to the limited techniques used.
