Iraq suffered from colonial control for a long time, despite its liberation from colonial control and gaining political independence, but it was not liberated from economic dependence on advanced capitalist countries and international financial institutions. Thus, the economy lost its independence. This has resulted in the unequal relationship between the Iraqi economy and international financial institutions (economic dependency).
