Abstract

MARGINALIZATION THROUGH ORIENTALISM IN TRANSCULTURALISM
Through western-centered orientalism, the east has been marginalized, humiliated and manipulated since the 12th century. In recent years, awareness has awakened in this regard in the east and reactions and counter attacks have begun to occur. The most important reason for the above-mentioned situation is the book of Edward W. Said entitled “Orientalism” which is about historical, cultural and political perceptions of the eastern world and the western World. In the East, the book has guided understanding the content and purpose of Orientalism and the book has caused great repercussions all over the world Orientalism is a field created by the West with the wisdom of its own thoughts and plans. In order to present this field more innocent and scientific, Edward Said put in effort to call this field “Eastern Studies” and Orientalism was opened to debate thanks to him. It is also noteworthy that Orientalism created by the West is open to discussion with the western point of view. The mentality of Orientalists, namely, “You cannot succeed in accomplishing anything but we can” and “marginalization” made Orientalism a tool of colonization rather than a scientific point of view. The current study focuses on marginalization and colonization which are two important components of Orientalism
