Abstract
DEVELOPMENT OF MOBİLE BANKİNG İN TURKEY
With smart phone and internet usage spreading rapidly both in the world and in Turkey, people started to shift to mobile banking system by starting to abandon branch banking or even internet banking system. All financial and non-financial transactions made through branch banking and internet banking systems have also started with mobile banking applications. This creates a cost-reducing, profit-enhancing effect for banks while saving time for customers.
Increasing use of smartphones and internet since 2011 has made the mobile banking system in Turkey the most important alternative distribution channel in the banking sector. This study focuses on the development of mobile banking in Turkey between December 2011 and June 2017 and analyzes statistical data on financial and non-financial transactions using mobile banking system.
When the results obtained are evaluated, according to June 2017 figures, the number of customers actively using the mobile banking system reached 24 million 385 thousand. When financial and non-financial transactions made using mobile banking system are evaluated, it is determined that non-financial transactions amounted to two billion in June 2017 period. Within the same period, the transaction volume and transaction volume of financial transactions using mobile banking system reached record levels.
If technology continues at this rate, it is inevitable for mobile banking to overcome branch and internet banking in the near future.
