Abstract
SOCIO-CULTURAL VALUE OF FOLK SONGS: BODRUM CASE
Folks songs, Turkish folk literature, folk poetry, in short, are the most common and rich oral traditions of Turkish culture. Many of them are performed in the form of folk songs with a melody. In folk songs, it is possible to see and recognize the community life, people's attire, education, knowledge and vision, the portrayal of romance, love and the beloved, unfaithfulness, neglect, fair-weather friends, foul- weather friends, death and in short, many things belong with the real world.
It is acknowledged that there is a wealth of folk song treasure in Bodrum as well as in all the geographies where Turkish language is spoken. Examining the folk songs compiled from Bodrum, it is seen that there are many behaviors, beliefs, practices, knowledge and manners related both the city and the social and cultural affairs of the people living in this city. In this study, socially and culturally portrayed values of Bodrum are investigated with reference to the folk songs that are compiled in Bodrum and its region.
