Abstract
SYRIAN REFUGEES FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF SOCIAL PROBLEMS SOCIOLOGY: THE PROBLEM OR OPPORTUNITY?
Because of the wars in Iraq and Syria, millions of people have migrated to neighboring countries, mainly to survive. Turkey have a "flow of immigration" because of civil war and persecution in Syria. Today, there are three and a half million immigrants / refugees / asylum seekers in Turkey. Incorporation of immigrants and refugees in this density brings with them some new situations and risks. Above all, immigration increases diversity in race, ethnicity, language and culture in society, and this can sometimes lead to dissociation and conflict. Even if the increased diversity has some opportunities for social and economic reasons, economy-based concerns causes to perceive migrants/asylum seekers as a problem and create reactions. We will theoretically discuss the issue of immigration and refugees from the sociological perspective of social problems. In this article we will consider the likely impact of the influx of migrants on labor, employment, economic resources and the possible consequences of new tensions of racial/ethnic diversity. In addition to potential problems that may arise, we will also evaluate possible opportunities and contributions.
