Abstract
EVALUATION OF MUSEUM EDUCATION AND ITS PRACTISES IN THE CONTEXT OF ART EDUCATION (SAMPLE OF THE MILITARY MUSEUM)
This research aims to determine on increasing awareness of art ideas of elementary students through practice of an art education study developed by using some art pieces and ornamented objects in Harbiye Military Museum. Study group of this intervention research was formed by 37 elementary 5th grade students from İstanbul İçerenköy Hasan Leyli Elementary School. Before and after survey with open ended questions was used as data collection tool. The obtained data was analyzed in Microsoft Office Excel 2003 and increasing awareness was calculated by comparing response average between before and after survey. Increasing awareness after intervention through the art education study was evaluated according to students’ idea about benefitting from the museum in the name of art education, ability to make a historical connection between paintings and some objects and ability to learn some artistic concepts and terms. Findings which presented according to the general purpose of the research showed that awareness of art ideas of the students had increased.
