Abstract
THE RELATIONSHİP BETWEEN ECONOMICS EDUCATION AND SELF-INTEREST PERCEPTION
Self-interest expresses to the request of maximizing of benefit and minimizing of loss. Self-interests, inherent character of human, certainly affects all our decisions and choices. Homoeconomicus frequently behaves without regarding social interests. The basic principle of economics is described as following self-interests. Studying economics may leads to consider self-interests as potentially beneficial and ethic. Students studying economics at universities may see self-interests more legitimate than other disciplines. First of all, the purpose of this paper is to examine whether economy student’s self-interest perceptions compared to other students differentiate or not. Secondly, the study aims to explore whether or not usefulness perception of self-interest affect ethicality perception of self-interest. To this end, we designed a survey with some questions among a large group of students from different departments at Dumlupinar University in Kutahya, including economics, business administration, applied sciences, sociology and theology. The paper’s results indicate that economics education may have on students’ perceptions towards self-interest.
