Abstract


PRE-SERVICE PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ IMAGES OF SCIENCE LABORATORY
In this study, the images of the science laboratory of pre-service primary school teacher were examined. For this purpose, 120 students were taken to the study group who were studying in the 2nd grade of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Faculty of Education Primary School Teaching Program and enrolled in the "Science and Technology Laboratory Applications 1" course during the 2012-2013 Academic Fall Semester. The study conducted based on the qualitative research paradigm and participants' images of the science laboratory were examined through metaphors. In this context, a measuring instrument has been applied to participants, that single question "Science Laboratory ......... Similar; Because it is .... ". Data were analyzed under 7 categories; cold-unwanted environment, production center, achieving subjective knowledge, working in various fields, scientific study, information source and expensive environment. Move from these data, it was found that participants had both positive and negative images of the science laboratory. This study includes discussion of the underlying causes of negative images of participants' science labs and suggestions for solution of the problem.
