Abstract
CEMAL SÜREYA AND CHILD LITERATURE
One of the most important and the most original poets in Turkish Poetry, Cemal Süreya`s (1931-1990) most remarkable aspect is definitely the relation of children's literature though his art life. It is possible to say that his writings, were written for children with childish sensibility in his column, named as ‘Aritmetik İyi Kuşlar Pekiyi’ in the magazine ‘Çocukça’, were guide for the recent children's literature. Cemal Süreya is one of the most important poets in `Second New` movement, is accepted as one of the most critical changes and use language deviations, connotations and images frequently, and his relation of children's literature gains in importance in this point. Cemal Süreya is one of the well-known litterateurs of `Second New` movement, is considered as a revolution in Turkish poetry and the aims of this study are to put forth Cemal Süreya's views on child literature for consideration and to analyze his writings in this field. This study searches the answers of the questions; `What are Cemal Süreya`s, a theorist in `Second New` movement, views on the subjects of child, child education and child in literature?`. The poet's works in the children`s literature are examined via descriptive analysis in terms of shape, content, language, and style in order to achieve the objectives. Consequently it is seen that even nowadays author, opposes the opinion of an independent children`s literature, maintains to be guide in this field by his stories, written with childish sensibility. That`s why the poet's works must be utilized for teaching figurative language skills in Turkish Language, and should be given more space in Turkish Language textbooks.
