Abstract
PERSISTANT FOLLOWING AS A FORM OF SOCIAL ABUSE -STALKING- AN EVALUATION BASED ON MOTION PICTURES
This study aims to analyze based on three movies the concept of stalking, which is translated to Turkish as persistent follow-up, constitutes a violation of privacy and has been recently evaluated as a crime in many countries. Stories of movies and dialogues used in those movies were examined through content analysis, one of the methods of qualitative analysis. The victim of stalking is mostly women. However, this study focuses on stories of male victims instead of female victims. It could be suggested that this preference was made mainly because there are high number of studies on female victims and the interest that is paid to reasons for why women commit this act and which methods they use. The reasons which pave the way for women to resort to stalking include their love for their feelings, regeneration of their existence, the will to control, autophobia, the stimulation of anger and being abandoned, obsessional personality, remaining in between anger and love, difficulty to separate fantasy and reality, the will to being accepted, and the meanings attached to right, anger and destiny.
