Abstract


MİSSPELLİNGS İN THE DİCTİONARİES PREPARED FOR THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS: EXAMPLE OF COMPOUND NOUNS
Words are one of the important materials of word teaching studies. In these kinds of studies, students make reference to school dictionaries rather than general reference books. In this study, it has been aimed to determine the misspellings in Turkish dictionaries which are prepared for the elementary students. The study which is done with document review, which is a method of qualitative method, is restricted to determine the words which are bound to be written as a compound but has been written seperately or the ones which are bound to be written seperately but written as a compound. In the study, four different Turkish dictionaries by Altın Kitaplar, Arkadaş, Bordo Siyah and Gönül Publications have been examined. It has been determined that in the dictionaries there have been misspellings with the words which are bound to be written as a compound but written as seperately to a large extend and there have been less misspellings with the ones which are bound to be written seperately but written as a compund. In some of the compund words upper and lower case mistakes have been determined. One can come across with misspellings of the words which are categorized under the same title although the spelling of the words are the same but the meanings are different.
