Abstract
EXAMINATION OF PERCEIVED SOCIAL SUPPORT LEVEL OF GIFTED STUDENTS' ENVIRONMENT
This research has examined the level of perceived social support of gifted students around. The study population consists of 378 identified gifted students of 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in Ankara. The sample is obtained from chosen 192 participants. Relational screening and mixed research methods are elaborated in the present study.
As for data, the Revision of Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS-R) developed by Yıldırım (2004), a personal information form containing demographic characteristics and semi-structured interview form are used. Yıldırım (2004) detected KMO subscales' values very high between 0.94 and 0.85.
In the analysis of quantitative data, t-test, one way Anova test was used. The relationship between the variables of the study were tested by Pearson correlation analysis.
According to the findings obtained from this study, highest social support is perceived from the family. Female students than male students perceived more social support. One child that the family situation has no negative effect on perceived social support. The parents association has made a positive impact on perceived social support. Comparisons made by other demographic variables was detected statistically significant.
