Abstract
ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS' ATTITUDES TOWARDS SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGGY COURSE AND THEIR ENVIRONMENTAL ATTITUDES
Aim of this research is to analyze the relationship between middle school students' attitudes towards science and technology course and their environmental attitudes. Samples are formed of 907 middle school students studying in the city center of Kütahya during the 2nd semester of the 2013-2014 educational year. In this research, relational screening method is utilized, and "Environmental Attitude Scale for Primary School" developed by Gökçe et al (2007) and "Scale of Attitudes towards Science and Technology Course" developed by Kenar and Balcı (2012) are used for data collection. For statistical analyses of the data collected; descriptive statistical methods (frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation) as well as one-way variance analysis, LSD test, independent samples T-test and correlation analysis are used. At the end of the analyses, a statistically significant relationship is found by grade and academic success variables in the case of middle school students' attitudes towards science and technology course, and by grade and mother's educational background variables in the case of their environmental attitudes. However, no significant relationship is found between middle school students' environmental attitudes and their attitudes towards science and technology course by gender, father's educational background and family income status variables. In this research; middle school students' environmental attitudes are found low, and their attitudes towards science and technology course are found high, while a positive correlation is identified between middle school students' attitudes towards science and technology course and their environmental attitudes.
