Abstract
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS’ OPINIONS ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF GOOD CITIZENSHIP
The concept of good citizenship has been discussed among scholars in the past decades. The purpose of the research is to investigate elementary school and social studies teachers’ opinions about the concept of good citizenship. The author applied survey method for this study. The sample of the study consisted of 401 elementary school and social studies teachers in Denizli, İzmir, and Kütahya in the 2014-2015 education year. The author collected data through Citizenship Questionnairre, which was originally developed by Davies, Gregory and Riley (1999) and adapted to Turkish by Kılınç and Dere (2013). The author analyzed the data by descriptive analysis, such as mean and standard deviation, and interpretive statistics such as one sample t-test and one way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The result of the study showed that participants agreed social concern and knowledge characteristics of good citizen. Also the study revealed that there was significance difference between male and female teachers on conservative characteristics of good citizen.
