Abstract
ANALYSIS OF TEVFIK FIKRET’S PEDAGOGICAL VISION AND VOCABULARY IN THE WORK ŞERMİN USING A HYBRID MODEL APPROACH
This research examines Tevfik Fikret's child-centered educational approach and the pedagogical value of Şermin, which he contributed to Turkish children's literature, using quantitative and qualitative methods. The aim is to demonstrate how Tevfik Fikret's "human miniature" ideal aligns with the linguistic and thematic structure of the work and to fill a methodological gap in Turkish children's literature. In the quantitative analysis, all 31 poems from the work were examined; vocabulary metrics (word diversity rate (WV) and mean sentence length (MSL)) and thematic frequency distributions were calculated using MAXQDA software. The findings showed that the work had a high WV (0.5613) and a low WV (mean 3.47 words). Thematic frequency analysis revealed a high concentration of themes focusing on holistic character building, such as nature, morality, empathy, and art. These findings provide statistical evidence of Tevfik Fikret's efforts to avoid linguistic complexity in his works while simultaneously providing a rich vocabulary appropriate to the child's cognitive level. Furthermore, the understanding of morality and modernization in Tevfik Fikret's works is examined within a comparative framework with other literary figures and intellectuals of the period. Consequently, Şermin is considered an enduring pedagogical monument to Tevfik Fikret's ideal of raising a perfect human being.
