Abstract
A STUDY OF PARENTAL ATTITUDES OF THE PARENTS WHO HAVE 9-10 YEARS OLD CHILDREN NOMINATED AS GIFTED IDENTIFICATION
In this study it is aimed to examine the parental attitudes of parents who have 9-10 year-old children who are 3rd grade and nominated as gifted identification by their teachers. Parents of 240 children constitute the target group of this research. In the study, Wechsler Intelligence Scale For Children-Revised (WISC-R) has been used for children, and Parental Attitude Scale has been used for the parents. Data has been evaluated using SPSS 21 package program. Percentage and frequency distribution have been taken into account in the analyzing process of the data. T-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) have been conducted. As a result, it has been concluded that while fathers are more democratic and protective than mothers, mothers are more permissive than fathers. It has been deduced that parental attitudes have been affected by the variables such as family structure, educational background of fathers and the birth order but not the variable of intelligence level of children.
