Abstract

THE DETERMINATIVE DIMENSION OF “SPEAKING GOOD WORDS” IN THE LIFE OF A BELIEVER (EXAMPLE OF SURAH AL-ISRA, VERSE 53)
Although Arabic is a rich language in its essence, the Holy Qur’an has made a great contribution to Arabic and advanced its literary dimension. One of the common denominators of sacred texts that have not been distorted or is to call people to goodness and recommend them to have a sweet language in social relations. It can be said that the Qur’an aims to raise ideal people almost from beginning to end. The Qur’an advises those who believe in it to be polite and courteous in human relations, even if they are their enemies, and not to act like their interlocutors even if they behave rudely. The virtue of empathy is one of the leading Islamic and humanitarian virtues. Islamic teachings have advised us to want for others what we want for ourselves, at the individual and social levels. The first condition for the formation of this virtuous society is that individuals exchange nice words that do not hurt the other person. In this study, the importance of good words in the life of a believer and their nuanced emphasis in the Qur’an will be discussed and analyzed. For this reason, verse 53 of Surah al-Isra was taken as a basis, but other verses closely related to it were also examined.
