Abstract
THE EFFECT OF PHYSICAL SPACE DESIGNS OF PRİMARY SCHOOLS ON ORGANİZATİONAL CULTURE
Physical space design in primary schools plays an important role in shaping school organizational culture. The physical environment is considered as an element that strengthens the sense of belonging of teachers and students towards the school and supports the educational process. In this study, the effects of physical elements such as architectural features of the primary school environment, classroom arrangements, and common areas on organizational culture were discussed. In this context, it was aimed to determine how the physical structure of schools affects the behaviors and social interactions of students and teachers. The study group consisted of 75 teachers and 25 school administrators working in primary schools in Turkey. In this study, in which qualitative method was used, case study was preferred as the design. Data were collected through teacher and administrator interview forms with open-ended questions and Google forms on the web. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. In addition, school and classroom observations were used to reveal the existing situation. According to the results obtained from the research, it was seen that physical space design has great effects on organizational culture, teacher-student relations and school climate in primary schools. The features of physical space that increase cooperation, strengthen social relations and provide security positively affect the general functioning of schools and increase the motivation of every individual in the school.
