Abstract
SCHOOL AS A TOOL OF POWER AND DISCIPLINE FROM FOUCAULT'S PERSPECTIVE
In this article, Michel Foucault's analyses on the concepts of power and discipline are discussed in the context of education. Foucault's conceptualisations such as subject-power, forms of power [pastoral power/biopower], great societies of confinement and control, subjectification and techniques of self can offer new perspectives in the structuring of educational policies. In the study, the concept of power, power as the production of a regime of truth, tools for analysing power and methods of combating power, the concept of governmentality and the critique of neo-liberal political rationality are discussed. In addition, the need to analyse the current situation and practices of educational administration approaches and educational policies in the light of the concept of power is emphasised. In this direction, it is suggested that academics in the field of educational administration should position themselves not as individuals who produce theories and discourses in the service of the dominant paradigm, but as intellectuals who can establish the practice of criticism with the knowledge they produce.
