Abstract
EXAMINING THE CRISIS MANAGEMENT SITUATION OF SCHOOLS ACCORDING TO TEACHER PERCEPTIONS
This study was conducted to analyze the crisis management status of schools according to teachers' perceptions. The research was conducted using the sequential explanatory model, which is one of the mixed research models. The quantitative dimension of the research was conducted with the survey model and the qualitative dimension was conducted with the case study model. The population of the research consists of 13058 teachers working in public schools in Mardin Province in the 2022-2023 academic year. The sample of the study consists of 390 teachers selected using simple random sampling technique. The study group of the qualitative dimension of the research consists of a total of 25 teachers, 9 of whom are female and 16 of whom are male, determined by maximum diversity sampling technique. Crisis Management Scale developed by Adıgüzel (2007) was used as the data collection tool of the quantitative dimension of the study. A semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher was used as the data collection tool for the qualitative dimension of the study. SPSS package program was used to analyze the quantitative data and content analysis technique was used to analyze the qualitative data. Regarding the quantitative dimension of the study, it was found that teachers' perception levels were at the level of undecided in the general school crisis management scale and communication and coordination sub-dimensions, agree in the organizing sub-dimension, and disagree in the planning sub-dimension. There was no significant difference between the perceptions of teachers with respect to gender, marital status, educational status, and economic environment of the school in general and in all sub-dimensions of the scale. While there was a significant difference between teachers' perceptions according to the age variable in the planning sub-dimension, there was no significant difference in the overall scale and in the communication, organizing and coordination sub-dimensions. According to the years of service variable, a significant difference was found between teachers' perceptions in the overall scale and all sub-dimensions. In the qualitative dimension of the study, findings were obtained regarding the suggestions for school management, teachers, students and MoNE to improve crisis management situations in schools.
