Abstract
PROBLEMS OF ART CRITICISM IN TURKEY AND PROPOSED SOLUTIONS
This study examines the challenges faced by art criticism in Turkey and offers suggestions for their resolution. It emphasizes the need to enhance the education and knowledge level of art critics, encouraging them to take a more active role in art and cultural policies. Emphasis is also placed on the importance of multidisciplinary studies to understand the societal impacts of artworks. Supporting projects that increase the accessibility of art and cultural events for critics, experiencing digital platforms to address the challenges posed by digitalization, and focusing on the aesthetic and sensory aspects of art for more comprehensive evaluations are highlighted.
Furthermore, the article advocates for critics to engage in profound experiences with artworks through collaborations with artists and art institutions, enabling them to provide candid and insightful critiques. Being open to free thought and criticism in the face of societal pressures, supporting the diversity of art, preserving cultural heritage, and emphasizing the role of art in education are among the recommended approaches. The article underscores the importance of active, conscious, and independent criticism for enhancing the power and impact of art criticism. By implementing these suggestions, it is believed that the quality of art criticism in Turkey will improve, and the societal influence of art will be strengthened.
