THE EFFECT OF DIGITAL STORIES ON SECONDARY STUDENTS' USE OF SUMMARY SKILLS
The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of digital stories on the development of secondary school students' summarization skills. In the study, the "Action Research" design, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study group of the research consists of 27 students attending the 6th grade of a secondary school in the central district of Çanakkale Provincial Directorate of National Education in the 2022-2023 academic year. Researcher's diary, student diary, Pre-Perception Open-Ended Student Questionnaire, Post-Perception Open-Ended Student Questionnaire, Story Summary Evaluation Rubric were used in the study. In the research, descriptive analysis was applied in the analysis of qualitative data. According to the data obtained in the study, it was concluded that students had positive perceptions towards summarizing, but there were negative perceptions such as lack of knowledge and reluctance to write summaries before the implementation of converting summaries into digital stories. Based on the findings obtained before the summarization practices, it was determined that the students who were made to summarize were able to write summaries in general. However, the completion of the parts resulting from the lack of technical knowledge and reading comprehension skills with education had a positive effect on the students. Based on the answers they gave to the last perception questions, it was determined that the students were willing to transform their summaries into digital stories. Converting students' summaries into digital stories had a positive effect on their summarization skills.
