Abstract
VIEWS OF TEACHERS ON MULTICULTURALISM AND MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION
The aim of this research is to identify and analyze the views of teachers working in different school environments on multiculturalism and multicultural education. In the research, interviews were conducted with teachers working in different school types in Ereğli District of Zonguldak. As a data collection tool in the research, the interview form "Teachers' views on multiculturalism and multicultural education" consisting of 18 questions was applied. Participants explained their perceptions of multiculturalism, multicultural education approaches, their educational status related to multiculturalism, and their views on the impact of students' cultural differences on teachers' teaching practice. In addition, they also explained the problems they experienced most in multicultural classrooms and their ability to solve these problems. It has been determined that almost all of the participants attended classes in multicultural classrooms and perceived multiculturalism as different culture and cultural diversity, and defined multicultural education as education in cosmopolitan and culturally diverse classrooms. It is stated that they perceive the positive aspects of multicultural education in terms of students as recognizing, understanding and seeing different cultures and values. In the study, it was emphasized that multiculturalism and multicultural education are extremely important processes for schools.
