Abstract
VISUAL METAPHORS IN DETERMINING STUDENTS' CULTURAL PERCEPTIONS
In educational institutions, it is aimed that children develop many skills such as social, academic, communication and thinking skills, as well as being aware of themselves and the culture in which they live, influence and at the same time are affected. In this context, the aim of the research is; is to determine the "culture" perceptions of primary school students through visual metaphors. In the research, which was designed with case study, one of the qualitative research methods, a total of 102 students attending the 3rd and 4th grades of primary school constituted the study group of the research. In this research, the pictures collected from the children were analyzed by content analysis by dividing them into codes, categories and themes. During the analysis phase, the data were transferred to the MAXQDA 2022 package program and presented in the findings and comments section in tables. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the students perceived culture as a value and heritage. It can be stated that students are influenced by the culture they live in and they see the environment as a cultural element while creating visual metaphors. In addition, it is noteworthy that students define the concept of culture mostly with national cultural elements.
