Abstract
FACTORS AFFECTING VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL ANATOLIAN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS' VOCATIONAL SELECTION
The purpose of this study was to find out the factors that influence the career choice of Anatolian vocational and technical high school students. The research took into account the opinions of students studying in Anatolian vocational and technical high schools under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education. For this reason, scanning method was used in the research. As the research universe, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students of vocational and technical Anatolian high schools in different districts of Diyarbakır were selected. As data collection tools; “The Scale of Factors Affecting the Occupational Choice” was used. According to the findings obtained; The lack of an effective vocational guidance system in Turkey forces secondary and post-secondary students to turn to different fields from their interests and attitudes according to their unconscious preferences. Most students have to choose a major based on their university exam results, without knowing their skills and abilities. Some students who enter college without knowing whether they have the interest and talent in the field change majors, fail, or worst of all, fail in business after graduation. The social, psychological and especially financial burden of this situation is heavy on individuals and our country. In order to eliminate this burden, vocational travel offices should be established in our country together with the education consultancy services applied in other European countries, and necessary research and guidance should be made with professional skills.
