Abstract
TEACHING OF IDIOMS AND PROVERBS THROUGH THE FAMILY CONCEPT STUDENTS LEARNING TURKISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
The aim of this research is to teach international students the concept of family in Turkish with idioms and proverbs. In line with this purpose, this research was carried out on idioms and proverbs of students who have learned Turkish as a foreign language: it was investigated whether there was a statistically significant difference in gender, education and age variables. The sample study consists of 53 students who have completed A1 and A2 levels, who have studied Turkish as a foreign language. The study also selected 47 idioms and proverbs related to family concept and family members. This statement and proverbs were taught to experimental group Students with activities and a brief introduction was made to control group students about family members only. At the end of the process, a test was applied to both groups. The analysis of Exam Result was performed by means of SPSS 21.0 statistical analysis software program. The statistical techniques such as frequency, percent, arithmetic mean, u-test were used in data analysis. According to the results of the test applied, the experiment group was successful in teaching idioms and proverbs. In the teaching of idioms and proverbs, activities were found to be beneficial.
