Abstract
INVESTİGATİON OF SOCİAL STUDİES TEACHER CANDİDATES' METAPHORİC PERCEPTİONS ABOUT FREEDOM VALUE
Freedom is a universal value in the social studies curriculum. For this reason, perception style is important. The aim of this study is to determine the metaphoric perceptions of social studies teacher candidates about value “freedom”. The study group of the research consists of totally 161 prospective teachers studying in the Department of Social Studies Teaching at a state university in 2018-2019 academic year. In the study was used the phenomenology which is one of the qualitative research model. The data of the research were obtained from the semi-structured questionnaire form shaped “Freedom is similar to……; because….”. The data obtained were analyzed by content analysis technique. The reliability / agreement percentage of the study was found to be .90. As a result of the research, it was seen that social studies teacher candidates produced total 70 valid metaphors regarding freedom value. These metaphors generated were collected under 15 themes. The most generated metaphor themes respectively were designated as infinity (f: 61, 51.7%), limitation (f: 16, 13.6%) and the source of life (f: 9, 7.63%). In the theme of infinity the bird (f: 21), the sky (f: 4) and the pigeon (f: 4); in the theme of limitation kite (f: 3) and cage (f: 2); in the theme of source of life water (f: 2) were the most frequently mentioned metaphors.
