Abstract
INVESTIGATION OF THE LEVEL OF DISPAIR OF PARENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS IN TERMS OF MARITAL SATISFACTION AND SOCIAL SUPPORT FACTORS (EXAMPLE OF DİYARBAKIR)
Every parent who wishes to have a child has a positive parenting scheme. The fact that the child born with special needs is seen as a worrying life for family members. Joining the child with special needs to the family is a transition period that requires adaptation to both the situation and the new individual. This transition period differs in terms of factors such as marital satisfaction and social support. It is known that social support is very important for effectively coping with the difficulties of this process which is generally compelling for parents. Social support, which has an important place throughout human life is all of the interpersonal relationships which the individual can find emotional, cognitive and financial assistance that their needs. Marriage satisfaction which is an important variable of the adaptation process of the child born with special needs is composed of dimensions such as mutual love, communication style and sexual satisfaction of the spouses. And it can be defined as the emotional, physical and social closeness of the spouses. It is known that parents, who evaluate the situation negatively, tend to not think positively about their lives. When the level of despair increases, the probability of an individual perceiving the future in a positive way decreases. Symptoms such as reluctance, pessimism, lead to the development of dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of social support and marriage satisfaction of the level despair of parents with children with special needs.
