Abstract
A CLASSIFICATION ESSAY ON GENDER CONCEPTS IN IDIOMS
This study endeavored to make a classification on idioms in which the gender is expressed by implicating. It is known that words in Turkish do not constructionally means femininity and masculinity; even so, this difference is specified in a kind of way. There was tried to review in what aspects the idioms with this differentiation are interpreted. In this regard, the existence of idioms which affirm or negate women or men in terms of the social meaning in related idioms. We also observe that idioms are mostly used to express a negative situation in terms of meaning. This study endeavored to classify how idioms that are used for only women and men highlight the gender. Gender comes into prominence in idioms arising from relationship, person, animal, object, physical deficiency, disease names, and biological differences. On the other hand, euphemism and classification such as assigning gender in figurative meaning based on the meaning that the word gains afterward. Feminine and masculine meaning attribution in idioms that are generated by word group was implicated in the analysis. Related idioms were interpreted by classifying from various aspects.
