Abstract
THE INVESTIGATION OF THE METAFOR OF THE STUDENTS OF THE 4th GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES
In this study, it is aimed to examine the metaphors created by students about Respect and Tolerance values within the scope of value education in 4th Class Social Studies course. The study group consisted of 540 students in 6 primary schools in Çanakkale province center who were randomly selected. The study was conducted in accordance with the qualitative research method. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. The most generated metaphors in the category of respect say elders category and or love met metaphors. The most metaphor produced codes were “close environment” and “feeling in codes. Among the metaphors that were created, it was thought that the value of tolerance could be caused by the lack of repetition of the value of tolerance and the more abstract perception of the concept. The fact that the participants still continue to be present during the concrete period due to the age group characteristic supports this idea.
