Abstract
AN INQUIRY ON SABAHATTİN ENGİN’S THEATRICAL WORK TEDİRGİNLER
Sabahattin Engin’s play “Tedirginler (Those Anxious)” is a psychological work. “Tedirginler (Those Anxious)” is also a parlour story. In the story, the damage caused by Emel, a selfish and troubled woman who brought about the breakup of a small family, is starkly told. Emel’s attitudes inevitably reflect on her surrounding and cause everyone to get down in this moody atmosphere. In this study, a content analysis was employed to examine Sabahattin Engin’s work called ‘’Tedirginler (Those Anxious)’’. Sabahattin Engin owns his unique theatrical attitude. By looking at his literary works, we can conclude that even if he is said to search for national and ethical solutions for societal problems, neither him nor his theatrical attitude is concerned about such issues. Engin does not cover ideological views in his sense of art. We should first state the reality of human component if we want to summarize Sabahattin Engin’s sense of art. He suggests that the characters which are formed by ideological views cannot be the theme of art. For him, the actual theme of art has to be human beings. Besides, Humans’ each dimension has to be taken into consideration when they are the theme themselves. The study was carried out through a screening model. This review aims at introducing Sabahattin Engin who is not known much in the history of Turkish theater, and interpreting an unknown play conducted by him.
