Çitli, which has been famous from the second half of the 19th century, has been a centre of attraction for a half century. An entrepreneur, named Rençberoğlu Angelos transformed this place to an economic value with the permission taken on November 8, 1866. For the transfer of water to Bursa and Istanbul and for the easy access of the customers to Çitli, a railway project, which starts from Mudanya and passing through Bursa and Inegol, came into question but it was not realized. In order to provide service to the patients who came because of the stomach upset, a hotel and a restaurant was built in the area. The Greeks, who were defeated in the Independence War, destroyed the site with the bomb while they were retreating. The water source was damaged and the water decreased. In 1887, a 16-page book named “Çitli Maden Suyu” was published. In this book, reports written by famous doctors about which illnesses the water is good for, took place.
