Abstract
THE WORDS OF THE DRINK, PUNT AND ADULTERY IN DIVANÜ LÛGATI’T-TÜRK
Divanü Lûgati’t-Türk (DLT), which is a cultural treasure of Turkish, shows wideness and prosperity of Turkish vocabulary in 11th century and also puts forward interesting recordings about people and community life, materialistic and moral culture in that century. From this point of view, DLT which was, approximately, written a thousand years ago, is, as a great many researchers agreed, one of the first historical and cultural reference books rather than being the first Turkish dictionary. The life style and understanding life of societies can be seen on languages of societies. DLT has been one of the research subjects in the science of Turkishness nearly for an age. This work is precious in terms of reflecting cultural properties as well as being important in terms of literature. Turkish culture has influenced many cultures and it had been influenced by many cultures in history. Change in the life style of the settled Turks has also been reflected on their culture. Old Turkish society life has developed by having intertwined with social, political, economic and environmental conditions in old periods of Turkish. The reason of this is, of course, as we have mentioned above, the cultural area that Turks joined and the effects of the religions.bDLT, as every subject, consists of valuable information on drink, punt and adultery of 11th century. In this article, three subjects mentioned in the title will be discussed. Therefore, it is studied, in this article; the words of drink, punt and adultery selected from DLT and their commentaries in the frame will be mentioned.
