Abstract
DELİ HALİT PASHA, -WHO IS RISEN TO “FOLK HERO” STATUS FROM STRUGGLE IN WAR OF INDEPENDENCE- AND HIS ADVENTURES
One of our anonymous heroes from our Independence War Halit Pasha –he was given a nickname “Crazy”- is a legendary hero according to Artvin public. Retired İmam Mehmet Akgül talked to many people who lived in war’s troublous days but he could not write what he heard from people. Therefore, these stories could come till today by only oral culture.
In this study I compiled, Deli Halit Pasha’s gang fights against Russians and then Armenians in Artvin, Erzurum, Ardahan, Kars area and his defeating the enemies with his extraordinary features and using his martial intelligence will be viewed and his legendary personality which told after war time will be expressed. The important works he has done and his being extraordinary can have different versions in various areas. It is a sign of that our hero is very much loved because his name is given to new born babies, mosques and schools in Artvin and around Artvin. Even today, he is a legendary hero for old source people. In this study important themes of hero type will be viewed and evaluated through the gangs’ words who fought with Deli Halit Pasha.In our study, the extraordinary works of the gangs -which were together with Deli Halit Pasha in battles- are studied with various motives.
