Abstract


DETERMINATION OF MNEMONIC DEVICES SCIENCE TEACHER CANDIDATES USE IN SCIENCE
This research combines the mnemonic devices used by science teacher candidates and all the mnemonic devices used in science. So, it can create awareness in teachers using conventional education and students using conventional memorization methods. This research has been conducted in 2017-2018 academic year of Süleyman Demirel University located in Isparta province. Research has been done on 81 teacher candidates who are studying their 1st, 2nd and 3rd year. In this research, presentations about mnemonic devices have been made to the science teacher candidates who are studying at Süleyman Demirel University and then, data have been gathered by using semi-structured interview form made of open-ended questions developed by researcher on teacher candidates. First, data have been computerized and then resolved by using descriptive analysis of qualitative research methods. Outcome of this research created quite interesting, creative, memorable and entertaining mnemonic devices. This research shows how science class is quite verbal and has topics that demand memorization despite that is it comes across as natural sciences in literature.
