THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF PROF. DR. ALI MUHAMMAD AL- MAYAH, THE PIONEER OF ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY IN CONTEMPORARY GEOGRAPHY
Based on the pivotal role that geography plays in the economic field in particular, economic researchers have paid great attention to it, despite the recent research and study in this field. It is of great importance as a result of the multiplicity of human needs, which are numerous and increasing. Economic geography is a study that aims to limit the various natural and human wealth resources, distribute them, and clarify the means of benefiting from them in the fields of agricultural, industrial, commercial, mining, and energy production, and what these means are exposed to in each field separately. Influences are mainly due to natural and human factors that may differ from one region to another in the world,Economic geography has received great attention, and it has an important and prominent position among the branches of geography, as it is directly related to economic problems and the international struggle in order to secure the population’s need for resources, whether in terms of quantity or quality. Production, consumption, the size of available resources and the possibility of exploiting them as blessings bestowed by God on His servants, and man must exploit them for his benefit and fulfill his changing needs.
The aim of the study was to get acquainted with one of the pioneers of contemporary geography and a beacon who lit the way for his students who spread his knowledge in Iraq and the Arab world. He is Professor Dr. Ali Muhammad al-Mayah, a great scholar. His scientific outputs in the field of economic geography in terms of thought and ideas to benefit from, in addition to shedding light on many of his scientific outputs, which created for academic researchers, postgraduate students, and those interested what was dear to them because of the elapse of a long period of time since the issuance of these results.
