Abstract
ACADEMIC MOTIVATION AND ACADEMIC PROCRASTINATION: A RESEARCH ON FORMATION TEACHER CANDIDATES
In this study, it was researched that the relationship between academic motivation level and academic procrastination levels of formation students. The study group consisted of 750 pedagogical formation program students at Balıkesir University Necatibey Education Faculty during the summer of 2016-2017. Data were collected from 380 students who applied the survey instruments used in the research. The relational survey model is used in the research. According to the results of the research, while the academic procrastination behaviors of teacher candidates differ in favor of males, no significant difference was found between the levels of academic motivation by sex. In terms of educational status (class) variable, prospective teachers' tendency to academic procrastination was found to be in favor of the final grades, and in academic motivation tendency, there was a difference in favor of graduates. There was no difference in terms of departmental variable in the level of academic procrastination and academic motivation of prospective teachers. It was concluded that there was a significant negative correlation between academic procrastination and academic motivation. As a result of the research, it has been found that academic motivation is predictive of academic procrastination behavior.
