Abstract
HASAN KHALED AL-MAWLAWI’S SUFISM DICTIONARY ISTILAHATI MASHAYIKH AND SUFISM TERMS WHICH LOCATED IN ISTILAHATI MASHAYIKH
Sufism is a very special area which has been expressed itself by using special terms and has been created its own literature. To understand works written about sufism we need books named sufism dictionary. We could consider a number of tractates named miftah and books named like istilahati sufiye which have been written about sufism terms. Hasan Khaled al-Mawlawi’s Istilahati Mashayikh is such book we worked on. The author has a number of poems which have been unfortunately lost. We have only works of him Istilahati Mashayikh, Sharhi Ashqnamei Dil, and a few little tractates. Cause Hasan Khaled gave informations about sufism terms shortly, it could be said that his book was a brief dictionary. Despite this, Istilahati Mashayikh contains over 850 sufism terms. It has been prepared by utilizing Seyyid Şerif Cürcânî’s Ta‘rîfât, Ibn Arabi’s Istılâhât, Kāşânî’s Istılâhât-ı Sûfiyye, İsmâîl Ankaravî’s Mesnevî-i Şerîf Şerhi, Kasîde-i Tâiyye Şerhi, Minhâcü’l-Fukarâ, Ahmed Ziyâeddin Gümüşhânevî’s Câmiu’l-Usûl, Muhammed Lâhicî’s Gülşen-i Râz Şerhi and Şeyh Sa‘deddîn Nakşbendî’s Hall-i Rumûz. Although that dictionary was a translation, Hasan Khaled has been added some his own explanations about terms. Whether one of them has missing parts, whe have two manuscripts of that dictionary. Under a separate title, the author has been explained terms like ebru, şarap, sâkî, harâbât, kadeh, put, çeşm which has some special meanings in sufies’ language. Knowing meanings of these terms is critically important for readers or researchers to understand sufistic texts and especially sufistic poems.
