Abstract
CLASSIFICATION OF DICTIONARY TYPES
With the advancement of lexicography and the proliferation of dictionary types, it has become necessary to classify these reference sources according to certain criteria in order to guide all those interested in the dictionary, especially dictionary authors. This classification (dictionary typology) is a system in which dictionary articles are defined and classified. It shows many categories and subcategories related to dictionary types. This study area of lexicography is important both in terms of dictionary authors and dictionary users. It is very important for the authors since it is directly related to the dictionary compilation phase. It has a guiding qualification for users not to be lost among the dictionary variants. So, this is also very important for users. Therefore, various classifications have been made in parallel with the advancement of lexicography and new classifications will continue to be made since the dictionary types will continue to increase day by day. In this study, the works done in this field was put together by the document scanning method, the samples showing the outline of the subject were compiled, and the cornerstones of the subject such as the importance of classifying the dictionaries and some sorting studies done before were described. In the conclusion part, a new classification experiment was carried out taking into consideration the present dictionary types and the previous classification.
