Abstract
THE CONCEPT OF RESEARCH UNIVERSITY
Universities have three missions: research, teaching and community service. Faculty members, human resources of the universities in scientific context, have responsibilities: carrying out researches, providing the service of teaching and serving for the community. However it is seen that the faculty members are having difficulty in keeping their responsibilities and experiencing the confusion of the workload. Therefore the concepts of “research based university” and “teaching based university” has started becoming prominent in the scope of restructuring the universities in Turkey. In this regard, the concept of research university has been reviewed based on available literature in this study.
